About DOI - CAL

DOI is a system for identifying and exchanging intellectual property in the digital environment. DOI provides an identifier for content that allows anyone with an internet connection to access information about the ‘object’ or source content.

The DOI also supports transactions for e-commerce and the creation of content for production of Coursepack.

It means that copyright management can be automated for all types of media. Managing intellectual property in a networked environment becomes easier.

Newsletters

CAL has produced z1 CAL Digital News, a bi-monthly e-newsletter, to keep you up-to-date on the developments in the world of content development and digital rights management. If you wish to provide comment on z1, subscribe, or unsubscribe please send an email to z1@copyright.com.au.

About Coursepack

Copyright Agency Limited's Coursepack pilot project is testing digital technology as a way to improve the production of coursepack materials and to better manage copyright. The project will benefit authors, publishers, printers, universities and students.

The creation of a university coursepack involves a number of different stages. Academics, print technicians, university staff and publishers all play a part in managing a variety of sources to aggregate content and to make sure complex copyright requirements are respected.

By using a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) the process can be simplified. The Coursepack pilot project is looking at how digital rights management can deliver positive outcomes for all participants in the production of educational reading materials.

There is increasing demand for the customisation of content from consumers like educational institutions and corporations. Digital formats provide considerable advantages in streamlining the production and delivery of diverse content. DOI helps to manage the customisation process.

The Coursepack pilot project is a collaborative initiative. The project aims to deliver benefits for all the players through increased cooperation and developing strategic relationships.

Funding for this project was provided by the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources under the Infrastructure Growth Fund (IGF) component of the Book Production EPICS grants.

For more information view the Coursepack CD.

EPICS

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources delivers industry specific assistance to the book production industry through the Book Production Enhanced Printing Industry Competitiveness Scheme (EPICS), which is part of a broader package of measures known as the Book Industry Assistance Plan.
